Burning Man 2008 Placement Questionnaire

Hello! It should take you about 15-30 minutes to fill out this web questionnaire. Please consider the following when describing your Camp or Village:

  • Reserved space is limited. There are more requests for reserved camp space than there is space available.
  • The questionnaire helps us to make decisions about the overall placement of Theme Camps, Villages, and Burning Man Departments; however, it does not guarantee placement.
  • Evaluation for placement is based on project interactivity, past project history, adherence to deadlines and clear visual plans and scheme.
  • Submission of visual plan or map must be to scale and two-dimensional (2-D) with dimensions in feet (ft). Please convert meters to feet.
  • Some of the questions have no bearing on your placement on the playa and are informational in nature.
  • Placement Questionnaire, Camp Layout Plan, and Leave No Trace Plan must all be submitted by May 31st.
  • Notification of placement will happen by early August.

If you are a Village or a large camp (camp > 150 people), please read the Theme Camp & Village Resource Guide, Creating a Village and Planning a Village located on our website. At the latest, all Villages and large Theme Camps must be on playa by noon Sunday, the day before our Gate opens to the public.

This questionnaire is the initial way to communicate your Camp plan to us.

  • After submitting this questionnaire, please contact us at placement@burningman.com, if you need to change any information or if you have questions we could help you with.
  • We will be keeping in touch with you regularly by email.
  • You will be receiving important information and reminders via placement-announcement emails.
  • We may also need to contact you by phone.
  • Please verify your contact information in the confirmation email you receive after you have submitted your questionnaire. If it is incorrect or changes after your submission, please let us know.

Quite a lot depends on the successful submission of this questionnaire. It forms the database that we use to determine your possible placement, and provides us with the list of subscribers for our very important placement email newsletters (Check your email spam filters to be sure placement announcements are not being blocked). If your submission is successful, you will receive an email confirmation, containing a summary of the answers you provided to this questionnaire. IF YOU DO NOT receive an email summary within 8 hrs, email us at placement@burningman.com

The only way to submit your answers to the questionnaire is through the website. Please DO NOT mail or email your questionnaire answers. This will not give us all the information we need. Many participants have found it useful to preview a copy of this questionnaire. To that end, we have provided a PDF version of the Placement Questionnaire for this purpose only.
